Mr Tuckey is an internationally recognized expert and instructor in the manual therapy technique known as Fascial Counterstrain. This enables our therapists to identify and correct the underlying cause of your medical condition and not just treat the symptoms.
Brian Tuckey PT, OCS, JSCCI
Mr. Tuckey graduated magna cum laude from the University of Maryland, School of Physical Therapy in 1990. He has 25+ years of outpatient orthopedic experience and has been certified as an orthopedic specialist (OCS) by the American Board of Physical Therapy Examiners since 1995. Mr. Tuckey started Tuckey and Associates Physical Therapy, specializing in outpatient orthopedics and Counterstrain techniques in April of 2004.
In 1992 Mr. Tuckey began training at the Jones Institute under the guidance of the famous osteopathic physician Dr. Lawrence Jones D.O., the originator of Strain and Counterstrain technique.Eventually Mr. Tuckey became one of only 4 physical therapists in the United States to be personally certified by Dr. Jones to teach Strain and Counterstrain.
As of 2016, Mr. Tuckey has personally innovated over 600 of the treatment techniques taught at the Jones Institute, expanding the curriculum from 220 techniquies to over 800. The expanded curriculum is now called “Fascial Counterstrain” due to its unique ability to impact and treat all of the body’s fascial systems including the vascular, visceral, nervous and musculoskeletal systems. This multi-system approach is unique in the world of manipulation giving it unparalleled diagnostic and curative capacity. Fascial Counterstrain is currently being taught to a rapidly expanding audience of domestic and international medical professionals.
Chris Butler, DPT
Mr. Butler received his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Wheeling Jesuit University, in Wheeling West Virginia. He has over 15 years experience in outpatient orthopedics with an emphasis on manual physical therapy.
Mr. Butler’s strong interest in manual medicine, led him to seek out a physical therapy facility that emphasized a hands-on personalized approach. He has been working with Mr. Tuckey for 15 years and has attended numerous post-graduate courses in the manual therapy area.
Mr. Butler works with a variety of patients from adolescents to the elderly, and custom tailors each therapy session to meet the individual needs of each patient based on their therapy needs.
Tracey Benden, PTA
Tracey Benden comes to Tuckey and Associates with 17 years outpatient experience. Tracey graduated from The University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology in 1990. After working in the field in various sports and clinical settings Tracey attended Northern Virginia CC, earning an AA in Physical Therapist Assistant in 1998. Tracey has worked in a variety of settings including sports rehab, geriatrics, and pediatrics. Tracey has spent the last 10 years with the focus on manual therapies which has lead her to Strain-Counterstrain and the Fascial Counterstrain techniques of Brian Tuckey, PT. Tracey is honored to work at Tuckey and Associates and looks forward to her growth as a manual therapist.
Justin Swanson, DPT
Justin Swanson has an extensive health and fitness background which began at Penn state in 2005 where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology. While there, he also earned certifications in personal training & strength and conditioning which he put to good use training Penn State athletes. Following Penn State, Justin attended the University of Maryland, School of Medicine, where he received his Doctorate in Physical Therapy, including an advanced certification on orthopedic manual therapy. His passion for anatomy and manual therapy, has led him to Tuckey and Associates where he has rapidly become proficient in Strain and Counterstrain techniques. Justin has experience working with all types and ages of patients including pediatrics, geriatrics and sports medicine clients.
Karen Andrews, PT, MTC
Karen Andrews graduated from the University Of Maryland, Eastern Shore in 1992 with her physical therapy degree. Karen spent 12 years at Kernan Hospital in Baltimore where she treated a variety of orthopedic and sports related injuries from young adolescents to geriatric patients, including athletes of all ages. Karen then spent 6 years with Physiotherapy Associates as a clinic/group director in Baltimore before moving to their Frederick office where she continued to enjoy treating a variety of orthopedic patients. In 2010 Karen earned her certificate in Manual Therapy from the University of St. Augustine, after becoming proficient with joint mobilization of the spine and extremities. Over the past ten years, Karen also begun utilizing a form of Counterstrain called Integrative Manual Therapy (IMT) which enhanced her manual training and improved her treatment outcomes. Prior to coming to Tuckey and Associates, Karen worked for Superior Physical Therapy in Spring Ridge for 5 years and began her training in advanced Strain Counterstrain. Karen feels privileged to now be a part of Tuckey and Associates and feels her passion for improving patient’s lifestyles in combination with her years of experience allow her to offer a comprehensive approach to helping patient’s reach their goals and live a more fulfilling life.
